WEEKLY DIGEST
ChatGPT Can Now Browse the Internet

OpenAI had initially enabled ChatGPT to browse the internet in May this year but halted this feature within two months due to concerns over bypassing paywalls on news sites.

What’s New:

OpenAI resolved this by implementing measures such as adhering to sites' robots.txt files and identifying user agents, allowing sites to manage how ChatGPT interacts with them. This not only addresses the paywall circumvention issue but also reinstates ChatGPT's browsing ability, enhancing its capability to provide up-to-date responses.

Why Does It Matter?

  1. Provide more comprehensive and informative responses, in a language of communication style that you understand. (E.G. Explain this news [URL LINK], use language as I was 10 years old.)

  2. Also, provide answers in the format wanted (E.G. provide a table of the LLM models available for the public today, format the answer in the table with name of the model, creator, released date,  special features, and include the latest news of each model).

  3. Fact-Checking: To do fact-checks for really specific questions (You have to be careful, as it sometimes hallucinates). (E.G. can you fact-check that """ ChatGPT's iOS app, launched by OpenAI on May 18, 2023, offers a user-friendly platform for on …."""

WEEKLY DIGEST
DALL-E 3 was announced by OpenAI

DALL-E2 is a tool developed by OpenAI that can transform text into images. It’s accessible via a web interface and API, and it’s now available to the public. However, there have been some limitations, including the quality of the generated images and the ability to incorporate words into them. It has been perceived as less advanced compared to competitors like MidJourney or Stable Diffusion.

What’s New: Introduction of DALL-E.
OpenAI has rolled out DALL-E 3, an improved version of its innovative tool. Now, it not only converts text into images but also teams up with ChatGPT. This integration means ChatGPT can assist users in crafting the right prompts to generate images, making the process smoother and more user-friendly.

Why Does It Matter?

The integration with ChatGPT makes it easier for users to generate prompts for DALL-E, removing the need for manual prompt creation. This is especially useful for those who struggle with coming up with detailed prompts.

Hands-On Experience:

  • While DALL-E 3 is gearing up for its debut, consider exploring DALL-E 2 as a warm-up: OpenAI Labs.

  • DALL-E 3 is scheduled for public release in late Fall 2023.

WEEKLY DIGEST
ChatGPT Can See, Hear & Talk

ChatGPT's iOS app, launched by OpenAI on May 18, 2023, offers a user-friendly platform for on-the-go interactions, syncing conversations across devices, and supporting voice input. Android users are still waiting as the app is slated to be available for their devices soon, but there is no release date announced.

What’s New:

This means that ChatGPT (on his mobile APP) can now analyze images, understand voice inputs, and respond either in text or with voice output.

Why Does It Matter?

The ability to analyze images and suggest actions makes ChatGPT immensely potent. As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words (or tokens in this case 🙂). 📷 For instance, uploading an image of a broken toy to the app and asking ChatGPT for repair instructions is now possible.

Hands-On Experience:

Per the TechCrunch article, the new ChatGPT features are currently available to a select user base in the United States. While awaiting broader access, download the Mobile App to explore its voice recognition, powered by Whisper, offering a smart assistant experience.

WEEKLY DIGEST
Google Bard Extensions

Google's alternative to ChatGPT, named 'Bard,' stands out for its unique data capabilities, as it can directly retrieve information from the internet, unlike ChatGPT, which relies on datasets up to 2021.

What’s New:

  • Bard Extensions: Users can now ask Bard questions about the information contained within their Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Maps, Hotels & flights), as well as videos on YouTube.

  • Google Fact Check: Every given answer from Google Bard can now be immediately checked by clicking on the "G" button in the task tool. See below for instructions on how to use it.

Why Does It Matter?

Google Bard extensions make AI more accessible and useful for users. For example, users can now use Bard to generate content for their blog posts or social media posts without having to leave the app. They can also use Bard to translate documents or emails without having to switch to a separate translation app.

Despite its high potential, the current state of the extension remains experimental, limiting the extent of tasks it can accomplish. However, this is just the beginning. It's anticipated that Google Bard may soon transition to the more advanced Language Model, Gemini, which is expected to surpass GPT-4 in performance.

Hands-On Experience: Setup Google Bard With Extensions.

  • Go to Google Bard

  • Ensure your Google account language is set to English. Click here to learn more.

  • To enable the extension, click on the logo and then enable the desired service. It's that simple!

here are some prompts to have fun:

  • @gmail, provide all the newsletters that I am subscribed

  • @Google Flights, Can you tell me the cheapest way to fly to Las Vegas in November? (can you guess whether it knew the user's location ?)

  • @YouTube I want to do a video of living in Munich, can you give me ideas for the content?

LATEST AI/ML NEWS
Microsoft Copilot.

Microsoft has been rapidly integrating AI capabilities from ChatGPT across its products and services. Accessible through its Azure platform and tools like Copilot, Microsoft is enhancing offerings with advanced language features.

What’s New:

Microsoft has announced plans to update all of its 365 services with Copilot and ChatGPT. This includes popular products like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Hands-On with Copilot in Windows 11

The Copilot integration in Windows 11 allows users to execute actions via conversational commands. In my testing, it was able to follow some multi-step instructions reasonably well:

  • It opened Notepad when asked, but did not write the poem itself - I had to copy/paste the text. Still, it showed an understanding of sequencing multiple actions.

  • It generated an image based on my prompt, though the quality was limited. Likely due to using an older AI model like DALL-E 2.5.

  • Changing screen settings: The command to switch to dark mode was found to be straightforward. The same worked to change my audio setting, in which, it opened the audio setting and adjusted it.

  • When asked to prepare for a deep work session, it opened Spotify and selected a suitable playlist, while also launching a focus app to disable notifications. Impressive!

Hands-On Experience

Like Google's Bard, Copilot shows the potential for AI to enhance productivity across Microsoft's products. While not yet seamless, capabilities are rapidly improving with models like ChatGPT.

As of September 26, the update is publicly available for Windows 11 users. Engage with this new feature by clicking the icon and exploring the shell interface to experience the AI-enhanced operations firsthand.
